Watercolour rain paintings began as an experiment. I have been using watercolour pencils for as long as I can remember and one slightly rainy day one afternoon in 2013 I thought I would try something a little different. I have an obsession with pattern, and also this fascination with unpredictability and the these paintings have a mix of both. There are a few steps, a formula to the creation of these works and then the rest is left to chance - how heavy the rain is, how long it is left, the paper stock even determines the patterns as it buckles. I love making them, something fun to do on a rainy day.
